Fed Credits is the game’s premium currency. It’s used primarily in purchasing items in the Mall, new outfits, and other packs. There are other items exclusively available only for purchase using Fed Credits. That includes cards to change your character’s name, face, and gender, as well as changing your Profession.

You can also purchase a Trade Federation Membership, which is like the game’s “premium account”. It has a lot of benefits like increased shipping limit, doubled amount of daily sign-in rewards, reduced Trade City tax, and discounts for other daily offers. (As of the August 1 Update, Federation Members will get more rewards and even more perks. Check out our update page for details)

So, are purchases required to enjoy the game?
Definitely not. You can remain as a free-to-play gamer and still make progress. The in-game purchases available are entirely optional and usually, just there to make your character look good or give you an easier time, especially when it comes to grinding and farming.
