It's really important to send out all of your scouts regularly, I try to do this every time I start the game, just send them out. It will help you reveal more areas for yourself and your alliance, it also helps you complete one aspect of your daily tasks, and also you will get stuck on your Main Quest if you have not revealed enough blocks on the maps.
As you progress in the game, it will take longer for the scouts to head out and discover new areas to reveal.
You can either send your scouts out by tapping the scouting hut then the game will find you a place automatically, or if you prefer to scout a specific area, then find the fogged area yourself on the map, and tap on the edge of the fog, next to where you already have cleared and that your scout has a path to get to.
