How to expand your Settlement
State of Survival Guide

Added:

Your goal is to survive, and you want to thrive and achieve a better community in your Settlement. As the chief, you’ll want to expand your settlement and clear the surroundings in order to provide your survivors a place that they can call home. When starting out, you’ll be provided only with the basics as you’re taken in by a group of people.

As you take lead in this settlement, your decisions will determine the outcome of your facilities, as well as your soon to be troops. Each settlement after all, will have to defend themselves from different kinds of threats, as well as gather resources. So, in order to do all of this, you’ll need to learn how to expand your current settlement, and we’ll tell you how.

Starting Out

If you’re new to the game, you’ll have to play through the game’s prologue. Your settlement will become your new home and you’ll only have access to one building, as well as some farms as your facilities in order to obtain food. From here, you’ll learn that in order to start expanding your settlement, you’ll have to learn how to clean the area in order to gather more food, rescue survivors, as well as clearing threats.

Simply play the prologue by following the steps on the screen, you’ll learn the basics of clearing the lot as well as taking out enemy monsters. As you clear an area, you’ll be able to place a barricade around it in order to prevent enemies from getting in. This is going to be the cycle you’ll be doing as you expand your settlement. It will involve clearing, upgrading, rescuing, fighting, as well as building.

As you progress through the Prologue, you’ll then be able to follow the game’s chapter stories. It’s quite simple to follow since you’ll be provided with tasks that will tell you what to do, these can include getting specific buildings, or upgrading them. You’ll get rewards such as resources, experience, and more so just follow them.

Reclaiming Land

Aside from clearing your settlement from debris and salvaging food, you’ll need to learn how to reclaim the land. In order to expand your territory, you must first get rid of any threats. A building that needs to be reclaimed will have a Red Icon with a monster target in it. If you check the details, you’ll be able to see the enemy’s squad power, as well as your own. Once you have chosen your squad, you can then challenge the enemy, and this consumes stamina as shown in the challenge button.

When starting out, you should have an easy time doing this since it’s early in the game. However, later on as you progress, they can get more difficult and have different waves coming in to you. But this will be a common thing that you’ll encounter as you expand your settlement. Continue playing through the prologue, and then later on you can change your squad members and use different kinds of tactics when clearing enemies. The important thing to consider is your current Squad’s power which is increased by leveling your heroes, ranking them up, as well as powering their skills.

Fixing Buildings

Once you have defeated enemies from certain buildings, you’ll then be able to fix it and turn it into a facility. As your settlement progresses and expands, you’ll be gaining access to more buildings that you’ll have to clear the infected with, they’ll each have a function once you have completed the repairs.

When a building is convertible to a facility, you’ll be able to see an icon with cogs and tools. Clicking it will provide you with the requirements listed, but all facilities that you have cleared for the first time can be fixed in an instant. Upgrading them is the different one where it will then use resources after.

One important aspect that you should know when fixing buildings is that not only will they provide you a new facility that you can use, but you’ll also be able to gain Battle Power which can be obtained as well as you upgrade buildings. Fixing them first however, will be the requirements for expanding your settlement since you’ll gain access to new areas.

Expanding your lot

As you continue playing the game’s prologue story, you’ll learn that it’s important for you to fix fences in order to establish the boundaries of your settlement. Once you have cleared the debris around, as well as defeating the infected and fixing the building, you’ll be able to establish your fences. Click the fence in order to repair it, this will then let you gain access to the next area.

Once you have done so, you’ll then be able to repeat the same processes that you have done earlier. Expanding your lot will require cleaning, rescuing survivors, defeating the infected, fixing the buildings and then fences. The difficulties of these will increase every time you expand, so you will need to learn how to improve the battle power of your heroes along the way.

Once you reach around Chapter 3 of the Story, you should be able to complete your entire settlement by then. Remember, it’s important for you to fix and upgrade along the way as you expand. Once you have cleared the entire area, you’ll be able to gain access to all facilities for your settlement, and then you can start focusing on upgrading them. A fully cleared settlement will look like one in the image below.
