How to play Unit Cards?
TEPPEN Guide
To play a unit card, simply drag it to one of the empty slots on your side of the field. As soon as it is played, it will start attacking the enemy unit in front of it or block incoming damage. The blue and red arrows are called Attack gauge. Once one of them connects to the target, damage is applied to both UCs.
Normal damage calculation between unit cards is simple: attack is applied and deducted to the target’s HP. To better understand how the attack gauge affects damage calculation, we’ll have some screenshots and examples below.
In the first screenshot below, in the battle between Anakaris and Felicia, Anakari’s attack gauge (blue arrow) connects first. Regardless, damage is applied between the two even when Felicia’s attack gauge (red arrow) is still in motion.
Anakaris, with only 3 HP gets destroyed while Felicia’s HP goes down to 6 (from 8). Also, if you noticed, Felicia’s attack gauge is still ongoing. Since Anakaris was destroyed in the previous exchange, Felicia will deal direct damage to my hero (Morrigan) unless we’re able to put something in that now-empty slot.
If we have enough MP and an available Unit Card to play, we still have time to play that card in the slot to block Felicia’s attack. Sadly, as illustrated in the screenshot below, we have no playable cards to stop Felicia’s direct damage. As such, she lands a free blow on our hero.
In another example below, we’re have Lilith going against a Metall C-15. The latter has been played first so its attack gauge is already about to hit Lilith. Lilith on the other hand has the Agility effect which doubles her attack gauge speed.
Now, moments after the screenshot above, you’ll see that both units suffered 2 x 2 damage. The first damage calculation was applied when Metall C-15’s attack gauge hit Lilith, then another calculation was done when Lilith’s boosted attack gauge connected.
This type of quick events makes it harder sometimes to react or even know what’s happening. However, once you know how damage calculation is done and how it is applied, you’ll be able to plan ahead and react accordingly.
