Basic Decks Introduction
TEPPEN Guide

Added:

This page aims to introduce new players and beginners in the game’s basic decks and help them decide which one they should start with and focus later on, until they’re comfortable enough to build or customize their own decks. As such, advanced deck building and competitive decks won’t be discussed in this page - only the initial assessment of the default or early versions of the basic decks.

Ryu (Red)

Ryu’s basic deck is focused on dealing damage to enemy units or directly to the enemy hero. You can see this evidently in his default units and action cards. The general strategy is to weaken or destroy enemy units before they deal combat damage through the effects of his core units, complemented by action cards that has the same effect. This way, Ryu can maintain field presence with his units as they pummel the enemy hero.

Ryu’s first hero art, Shinku Hadoken is capable of dishing out a huge amount of damage to an enemy unit. This makes Ryu’s deck beginner-friendly since his deck’s gameplay is somewhat straightforward and easy to play.

Rathalos (Red)

Rathalos’s deck is primarily about keeping the offensive by boosting his unit’s attack via action cards and effects of other units. Units with flight and rush are preferred since they can easily bypass defenses when used at the right time. Wrath Awoken, Rathalos’ second hero art even gives Flight to a friendly unit and boosts its attack equal to the number of times his units’ attack were boosted by action cards.

Since the Rathalos deck lack cards that directly target enemy units, you may complement it with damage-dealing action cards to help preserve your units by destroying enemy units or at least weaken them before exchanging combat damage.

Chun-Li (Green)

Chun-Li’s basic deck specializes in using shields to protect her units and even herself while maintaining field presence, fighting defensively before counterattacking with monstrously buffed units. Shields can negate any amount of damage and they can be added on top of another, creating layers of shields.

She can also take advantage of green units with the MP Boost and Victory effects. MP Boost ensures the availability of MP to activate her action cards while Victory effects can either keep her units healthy or turn them into unstoppable monsters by gaining permanent attack buffs and HP heals from defeating enemy units.

Basic Decks Introduction

X (Green)

Similar to Chun-Li’s deck, X’s basic deck starts off the battle defensively before overcoming opponents with his hard-to-kill units. He can also take advantage of green units with the MP Boost ability to keep his MP available for reactive heals. Instead of shields however, X’s deck focuses on preserving friendly units on the field through consistent healing and access to cards that has hero HP recovery.

What X’s units lack is attack power, especially his low-MP units that you can play early, making them vulnerable to black destroy cards that can target low-attack units. However, there are green action cards that add permanent attack buffs that he can utilize to counterattack this.

Basic Decks Introduction

Morrigan (Purple)

Morrigan’s deck primarily specializes in utilizing the Halt status to control the pace of the battle instead of brute-forcing or turtling your way until you bring out the big guns. This status stops an enemy for a few seconds, resetting their attack gauge and prevents them from attacking and counter-attacking. She also has access to action cards and a hero art that allows her to restore some of her HP after dealing damage. Morrigan’s units mostly lack the long-term sustainability since they don’t have the heals or buffs to give them the edge over some enemy units. As such, even the timing of placing unit cards on the field require some sort of timing, especially with her units that can trigger the halt effect.

Basic Decks Introduction

Dante (Purple)

Similar to Morrigan’s deck, Dante’s deck also relies on field manipulation to turn the advantage to his favor. However, his deck is prominent for units that have the Resonate ability. Resonate is triggered whenever you use an action card. Some of Dante’s units have the ability to increase their attack or HP permanently whenever this ability is triggered, while some can gain flight. To effectively take advantage of this ability, Dante’s action cards are usually the low MP ones which can include permanently/temporarily reducing an enemy unit’s attack, negating an opponent’s action card, “bouncing” an enemy out of the field, and many more.

Basic Decks Introduction

Albert Wesker (Black)

True to the “high-risk, high-reward” nature of black cards, Wesker’s deck is prominent with units with the Revenge ability. This allows them to bypass the graveyard once upon defeat, then return to the deck with reduced cost and increased stats. He can also utilize cards that can destroy enemy units with varying conditions or costs. This synergy allows Wesker to basically throw units on the field, destroy defending enemy units, and re-summon previously defeated and more powerful units for low MP cost.

Basic Decks Introduction

Nergigante (Black)

Nergigante is about sacrificing a bit of its HP to play a lot of its cards, ranging from summoning powerful units on the field to action cards that destroy enemy units. While this seems counter-productive first, Nergigante’s deck starts to shine once you unlock its second hero art, Spike Launch. This art deals damage equal to the amount of life sacrificed, split to all enemy units. This capability to deal massive damage and action cards that can instantly destroy valid targets allow Nergigante to clear the enemy field effectively so its units can land direct attacks without intervention.
