What is Direct Damage?
TEPPEN Guide
As explained earlier, if there’s no unit card in front of an attacking unit, the hero will take direct damage instead. This is the basic and common method of dealing damage to a hero.
There are also certain cards however, that deal damage directly to the hero, mostly red cards, such as the examples below.
Units with the Flight effect (we can also call them “flying” units) can bypass a defender and deal damage to the hero equal to their attack power. Only another flying unit can block and prevent this type of direct damage though normal damage calculation is still applied when the attack of a defending non-flier unit connects.
Attacking units with the Pierce Damage or Heavy Pierce effect can also deal direct damage to the hero after that unit defeats a defending unit. Pierce Damage deals excess damage from the defeated unit’s HP to the hero while Heavy Pierce deals full damage dealt to the defeated unit to the hero.
There are limited ways to prevent direct damage as listed below:
* Block attacks from enemy units using your own units.
* Block flying units with another flying unit
* Destroy an attacking unit using card effects or hero arts before their attack gauge connects
* Dante’s Devil Trigger Hero Art prevents all damage done to him for 10 seconds.
