Why am I not able to use my full combat power during battle to defend the city? Also, none of my hero skills get activated!

If your trying to increase the amount of troops you want to send out.
1)upgrade barracks
2)upgrade hero level defeating zombies or more effectively upgrade skill #1 using wisdom medals (you obtain these by completing event challenges everyday it will taketime)
