Are there caps to the holdable items? I swear I've picked up a couple dozen of the money chest but when I go look I only have six.

For the stored items that you get from rewards, there should not be a cap. It's not easy to keep track of items that you collect in rewards and i have often been unsure if i have received everything, but when I have checked they do seem to add up correctly.
If you think there is something not working right though then you can report it to the devs using the contact feature in the game. Hopefully they will look into it for you.

As an added comment to this, I haven't tracked all the items but I have noticed that while I frequently pick up the lowest value boxes (gray ones), once my inventory filled up the only ones I see are the two most common, food and cash. I don't know if this means that the lowest value items get dropped or if they are somehow consolidated into higher-value boxes which would be nice, but there it is 0 0 REPORT
