What are energy fragments for?

Following the last update the energy fragments can now be used in the new Parts Factory building to exchange for materials. At the moment you can buy a blue chest for 120 fragments or a purple chest for 2800 fragments. It seems the available chests will change from time to time.

Tap on the Parts factory building and chose the Depot option. Then select Material shop at the bottom. Here you can buy the chests.
