When I visited the shooting range, the troops are armed with crossbows. How can I upgrade to guns?

The graphics show bows / crossbows for some of the troop levels (some show guns). But it's the stats that are important, not what they appear to be holding. Just keep upgrading to let you train higher level troops. The higher stats will mean better performance.
