How do I increase gathering speed?

How do I increase gathering speed? The count goes down really slowly and I see others who just races downwards.

It will depend on the resource you are gathering. Food and Fuel gather quite quickly while Lumber and Iron are much slower.

There are research options to increase the gathering speed of each resource that you can do.

There are also boosts that you can buy to temporarily increase gathering speeds.

Also if you are a farmer you will get boosts gathering speeds and amounts on your Class APC.
