For DD, will upgrading Assault or Guardian Fortresses help lessen troop damage?

For DD, will upgrading Assault or Guardian Fortresses help lessen troop damage? Or do I concentrate on upgrading Virus Facility? I also have a reset available to change specialty points and upgrade (red) attack conquest/might?

Virus research buildings are the most important for being able to occupy plots. The fortress buildings will improve your troops attack and defense during fights in doomsday to reduce wounded troops especially when attacking enemy plots, alliance centers, buildings and New Eden cities / gates etc.
