Somehow I have ended up the commander of an alliance. I want to quit and join another. How do I do this?

You need to make another member of the alliance the leader. Go to the Alliance menu and select the members list. Find another member you want to take control and tap on them to see their detail. There will be an option called 'Commandership Transfer' Use this to set them as the R5. You can then use the option to quit the alliance.

Then you must disband / close the alliance to leave. Go to the alliance menu and the Manage tab.
