Hero Skills and Placement Guide

Last Updated:
This guide is for the Legendary (Orange) Combat heroes in Rise of Empires. There are the heroes that you will be aiming to recruit and upgrade to make use of in your Legions. They are the strongest heroes in the game.

There are initially 10 legendary heroes in the game that you can recruit with more becoming available through a series of seasons or the event Reign of chaos. With each of the first 4 events that you compete in the Season or 'S' heroes will be unlocked and you will be able to recruit them too.

The S heroes will have more specialist skills and be stronger overall than the standard heroes but the requirements to unlock the skills will be harder to attain.

Skill Range / Hero Placement

Once of the main questions when setting up your Legions is where to place heroes. Once you have complete the legion research you have 3 slots to place heroes in. The skills that your heroes have will affect their best placement. This does of course depend on what skills you have managed to unlock.

The range of a skill will tell you how many rows forward they will be able to affect. A skill with range 1 will only be able to affect the row in front of it this means that that hero needs to be in the front row of your formation and they will be able to affect the front row of the enemy only. A skill with Range 5 will be able to cover all of the enemy rows from your back row.

A few heroes have skills that buff friendly troops instead of attacking enemies. Or in some cases both buff friendly troops and potentially also damage enemies. These are marked below.

Below is a list of all the legendary combat heroes and the Range of their applicable skills. A recommended placement based on these ranges is also listed. There are some further suggestions at the end.

While this gives a good indication of making the best use of the heroes skill when unlocked, if you don't yet have them all unlocked but want to use the hero anyway then the best placement for your heroes in a formation will depend on other things.

Where you cannot place a hero in the best situation for them you should look to place heroes according to the number of troops that can command. This will be base on the status of the 1st and 6th skills. Those that can command the most troops should go at the front as the front line is likely to take the most hits from the enemy.
