How do you use hero experience items that are in your “items” inventory under “other”?

Go to the hero menu and select any hero that you want to level up. (must not have reached level 50). Below the picture of the hero and above the skills boxes is the level progress. Tap the small [+] icon to the right and you will then be able to select and use any of your stores Hero Exp items to boost that hero.
