What is the difference between legion, squad and formation?

What is the difference between legion, squad and formation? Some orange hero skills impact hero's squad, others impact hero's formation. Which one includes just the troops assigned to that hero and which ones impact all troops in the army?

"Legion" and "formation" are with same meaning, and that kind of skills (7th always) affect all your legion ("Legion" - 3heroes with all their soldiers)

"Squad" or some players call it "raw"... means - only one hero with his soldiers..

And what is a “target” , it seems weird that a hero skill would do damage to one individual target, so then is it the same thing as a squad? Or is it the enemy hero individually?
