My farm is r5 from an alliance who have migrated, but it wont let me quit only merge with another alliance, I want to quit and join my new alliance how do I do this?

As the R5 (leader) you cannot leave without transferring the leadership to someone else. Go to the members list and find an R4 (or promote one) and then you will have an option to transfer the leadership to them. Once done you will be able to quit.
