What is the best legion configuration for defending the castle? All cavalry has great marching speed for attacks, but what about defense at home? I'm trying footmen, then 2 ranks of archers, but is there a better answer?

It will depend on what the enemy is sending at you. And on what you have available.

If the enemy is sending Cavalry then Archers may be best. But if your bet troops are cavalry and you have cavalry heroes and equipment then that may be stronger. You may need to check the attack reports for different hits and see what damage you take, how many troops you lose etc depending on the attack type and what you use to defend.

I did not understand anything. I did not know that it was possible to set up defences of specific troop types.
