The Hero Shi Fu has a skill named footmen recruitment. The description says that it has a cool down period after which I gain 500 troops. Up to level 9.
My question is how do I know it's working and how long do I have them for.?

When its active you will have the option to trigger it and gain the troops. You then have to wait until after the cool down finishes to trigger it again. You do this manually each time. You keep the troops.

You can check the number of troops you have at any time by tapping on the Military University Building. Select the Troops option. This will show you all the different type of troops you have with the options to promote or enhance them if unlocked.
