Gathering speed bonus not working?! I activated such a buff then sent my troops to gather, but the gathering time is not reduced at all. And it doesn't say anywhere that this is an event specific buff... What am I missing?

Gathering speed and gathering time are two very different things. Gathering speed is how many units of an item your troop is able to "mine" from the resource pit.
I agree that this should actually result in shorter time, but conceptually these are two different things you are asking about.

I believe the gathering time will reduce (when a gathering speed bonus is activated), ONLY when you are able to go past the total rss available in that pit. 0 0 REPORT
Assume, you are mining a pit of 2mn rss and your troop capacity is only 1mn, using a speed bonus of 50% may increase the load to 1.5mn (may not always be the exact 50%) and the time will still remain the same.
But if you were mining with a troop load of 2 mn, then there is no scope to mine more, hence your time will decrease.
You will experience this if you mine a lower lvl pit.
