What is the benefit of unlocking the surrounding area of castle other than providing space for buildings, do they give extra power?

No extra power. Expanding the castle area is really just to let you build and create a wider city layout. There are cosmetic items you can ad etc if that is of interest to you.

Can your workers explore different areas for different rewards as you unlock areas surrounding castle???

Also when your buildings aren't so close together, the deer are more abundant, which you need to collect each day to power up your dragons power.
