In general you cannot buy resources for gold. You can buy resources for gems in the item shop.

If you are a trader class then in your market building you will have the option to buy some items and resources for gold or gems although this is limited.

Keep working on completing as many quests, hourly events and other events to earn rewards that will give you a lot of food.
