Last Updated:

When trying to maximize your might and battle effectiveness in Sea of Conquest it is important to consider the type of damage that your ships and heroes will do in combat.

While some heroes (and ships) have their focus on defense and healing most will offer skills that do damage to an opponent. These are broken down into 5 types and each Firepower hero will specialize in one of them. Your main flagship is an all round damage dealer, but the side ships that you build and add to your fleet will also have specializations that may include one ore more damage types.

Damage Types

Each of the 5 damage types will fall into 2 categories, these are direct damage and damage over time.

  • Direct Damage refers to immediate damage that each attack will inflict on the enemy. It is immediately applied which is useful but may not case as much damage overall.
  • Damage Over Timer means that the attacks will not immediately lower the enemy HP but will degrade it over the next few seconds. These stacks can often stack as well meaning that the overall damage can be much higher but will take time to apply.

There are also differences in how many enemies are affected by an attack at once. Some will target one enemy at a time, which is good for PvE battles with Sea Monsters and Armed Freighters. While others will target multiple enemies which favors battles against other players.

Artillery Damage

What are the Damage Types in Sea of Conquest

Artillery damage is a direct damage type that immediately damages the target. In this case the attacks can target multiple enemies at once and do damage to an entire enemy fleet.

As the damage you will do with Artillery to each single enemy may be less overall, other damage types may be preferable when hunting sea monsters, but for battles against multiple enemies Artillery can be a difference.

Cutthroat Damage

What are the Damage Types in Sea of Conquest

Cutthroat is another direct damage type, meaning that it will immediately damage the targeted enemy. It will focus the attack on a single target in the enemy lineup with the lowest HP.

This can be a useful attack to quickly knock an enemy ship out of the battle when you are battling players but it is more useful when you are fighting against single enemies such as sea monsters, freighters etc.

Strategic Damage

What are the Damage Types in Sea of Conquest

Strategic is the final direct damage type. This damage will give you a middle ground between Cutthroat and Artillery damage types where it can be applied more generally to enemies according to the heroes skills.

It is important here to examine the skills of any strategist heroes to discover what damage they will do and how often. Strategist heroes can be used in any situations if you are not able to complete a ship with other specific types.

Blazing Damage

What are the Damage Types in Sea of Conquest

We now move on to the 2 damage over time types. The first is Blazing damage. This attack will place stacks on any enemies that can build and damage the enemy over a number of seconds.

  • Each stack will apply a damage equal to 10% of the attackers attack rating every second for 8 seconds.
  • It can stack up to 10 times.

While the damage is done slowly these damage over time attacks can become extremely effective if you can ensure that the stacks build up and last. For this it is important to make your blazing heroes stronger to increase the base damage and where possible group Blazing heroes and ships to maximize the number of blazing attacks that are made.

Damage can be done to multiple enemies at once meaning that it is effective in PvP.

Drowning Damage

What are the Damage Types in Sea of Conquest

The other damage over time attack is Drowning damage. In this case you will be applying a 'Taking on water' effect to the enemy which then causes the damage over time.

  • Each stack will apply a damage equal to 20% of the attackers attack rating every second for 5 seconds.
  • It can stack up to 10 times

As you can see this is going to be very similar to the Blazing damage with the difference that it will cause more damage over a shorter time. It will be even more important in this case to build up the stacks using the heroes and ships to ensure that you keep the damage going and potentially do even more damage.

How to maximize damage

With the focus on combat in Sea of Conquest it is important to try to find ways to maximize the damage that you can do with your fleet of ships to any enemies. Unfortunately the large amount of different factors in the game including the different skills of the heroes makes this a difficult prospect.

It is clear that some damage types favor battle against the stock enemies of the seas you sail in, while others will be better suited to the PvP encounters with other players. You may need to test out different setups depending on the ships you have built, the heroes that you have managed to recruit so far and the level of their skills that you have managed to unlock.

In general you will benefit from grouping together ships and heroes that have the same or complimentary damage types. But not forgetting to include the support heroes that will help to mitigate the damage done to you by your enemies.
