Traits
The Sims™ Mobile Guide
What are traits for?
Traits in The Sims Mobile are special features / attributes each of your playable sims eventually earn in the game while you interact with other sims, or when they perform different activities therein. Instead of earning a random trait when playing, you can actually pick which ones you'll give your sim. Having the choice for which trait to give your sim will enable you pick ones that would generally have an effect in his/her career or the activities your sim is currently into (like specific hobbies and relationships). Doing this (performing actions relevant to your trait) give you bonuses in experience, Simoleons, etc.
(the image above shows the trait "Ambitious" -- as it is activated, and boosts the particular sim to become a bit better in her career)Whenever you create a sim (or conceive them through "Woohoo"), you'll be given one pick for their startup trait. To earn more traits, you simply play through the different activities in the game (like performing work shifts, partying, socializing and what not. And though there isn't a progress bar that reveals any of the inner workings of having traits, you actually do earn them as you play your sim. Typically, you have a maximum of 4 slots of trait per sim, which when obtained, gives you the option to retire them.
If you happen to have disregarded the retirement notification, you can actually go to the sim setting (on top of the car icon on the lower left part of your screen), pick the tab on the right most part of the window (which will bring you to the traits window), and pick the option "Retire Sim".
How do you earn them?
Playing the game and progressing through the levels would normally unlock most of the traits found in the game. Simple actions like going through your work shifts, performing hobby events, or even socializing will generally lead you to discovering new traits. Otherwise, if you are eager to earn a particular trait, the fastest way is by actually purchasing them with your Heirlooms -- a special resource earned from retiring your sims or by purchasing them using tickets.
This is why it is important to also retire your sims when they reach a certain plateau in the game, where you do not get much progress using them aside from earning Simoleons through their work shifts. Heirlooms are generally important so that you get to unlock new traits.
How do you improve on traits?
When a particular trait is always triggered by your sim, it will eventually improve to a better version of that trait -- which in return, will give you slightly better benefits compared from the initial trait. This is marked as the "star" indicator in the trait icon. For instance, if you get the better version of the "Generous" trait, this would basically give better Login Rewards.
