Careers tend to reward you with relevant items that you can purchase for the workplace itself whenever you reach past a milestone in that particular field ("Career Collections" in the catalog). For the most part, these items can be used as points of interest (activity spots) when performing the actual shift. Not limited to this, they usually give you a head start when performing a shift (the gauge gets an initial bump). Additionally, they basically add up to your overall progress with regards to Lifestyle - which would ultimately unlock more content for you in the long run.

That said, the answer to the question in a sounding YES! Take note that the stuff you buy for your current careers would stay there permanently and you wouldn't have to purchase them again when another sim enlists in that career, or wouldn't have to keep them in your inventory prior to shifting your sim to another career.
