Any other way to depose alliance leader, beyond waiting until they're inactive for the required amount of time?

Such as a unanimous vote from R4, etc. In a small but (once) growing & active alliance that I've enjoyed a lot but the leader one day hasn't come online anymore, and before I noticed he was impeachable, some random who is low level, lives far away from us, doesn't speak or do much snagged leader role and must be offline for 24 hrs for me to depose him, and, he seems to know this and log in each day to prevent that. I am Militiarist of the Alliance and have the highest might in the group. I'm considering making a splinter alliance off of it but don't want to lose the great benefits we have all donated for... There must be another way?
