Colorwood Words - Cryptogram is a well made word puzzle game from Burny Games. Available on mobiles and PC, the game comprises quotes and sentences from well know people, songs, movies, books as well as interesting facts. Not all of the phrases in the game may be well known, which makes solving them a little tricky.

Colorwood Words - Cryptogram Game Hints

We have some tips for the game itself as well as useful strategies and techniques for solving crytopgrams, many of these are based around the rules of the English language.

• Fill in the known letters

  When you start and as you discover new letters you will find that the known letters are marked in green on the keyboard. Fill in the matching spaces (same number) to clear that letter. This will help give you clues for other words in the text.

• Letter Patterns

  Pay attention to single letters in the text. Commonly these will be A or I.

  Look for other small words. The most common 3 letter word is 'The' but there are others of course. Consider the most likely 2 letter words for the context of the sentence you have. These will generally contain 1 vowel and 1 consonant.

  Look for double letters, or repeating letters in a word (2 of the same number or symbol). These can give you more clues to the letters and the whole word they are in.

• Punctuation

  If the puzzle contains apostrophes, then these can also help to identify the word, I'M is common But it could also be I'D. An apostrophe before the last letter could be a plural 'S or the end of CAN'T, DON'T etc.

• Longer text means more clues

  Make sure to scroll down to read all of the long text items. It can seem confusing but there may be letter clues unlocked to full in and more clues to find.

• Practice

  As with many puzzles, practice is a big help. The more cryptograms you solve the better you will get at spotting the clues and hints.
