My alliance leader promoted me to Diplomat. What does that mean?

You will have a few extra permission to do alliance actions such as using alliance skills, and you get a 5% gathering speed buff.
Other than that any tasks would be up to you and the alliance leader to decide. If they want you to make deals with other alliances, invite players, manage any events etc. You can ask them if they need to to assist in any way.
