For economy type heroes, do their buffs work automatically if you have recruited them or do you need to station them or activate them somehow?

No. Their skills are NOT automatically activated when they are recruited. You will need to level them up using antivirals. Then you need to enhance them by collecting cards won through completing levels in campaign. Then repeat until each skill set is unlocked.

Once the skill is unlocked does it automatically go into effect? Do ecomomy heros have to be stationed somewhere for their skills to activate? Such as the wall? 0 0 REPORT

Economy hero skills are passive so once they are unlocked they will take effect automatically and you do not need to station the heroes or use them in any other way. If you are still looking for help with this game we have more questions and answers for you to check.
