You need to obtain a paint bucket which can be picked up in the gang market. Or you may have collected some as rewards.
Then go to your ship view, you need to zoom out and tap on the sail at the top, but the easier option is to tap on the equipped canon and then change to the sail.
When you view the sail you will see a paintbrush icon at the top, tap this to see the color and pattern options you have available.

There is no paint brush icon. Have tried following the instruction multiple times but it does not work. Oops. Wrong ship view. Just made it work. 0 0 REPORT

Which ship view? Went to bottom right icon "Ships" - then clicked on the sail icon - but I can't see any paintbrush option/icon there...Guest Replied
I figured it out after I watched the video. You have to go up top like you're fishing. Then you can see the proper view for changing the paint scheme. Add your answer
