Hero Promotion

Zio and the Magic Scrolls is an idle-RPG game with gacha mechanics where you’ll have to form a team of capable heroes and villains to tackle the various story stages and content the game has to offer. When playing, you’ll be able to recruit/summon various heroes with different types and specialties. Aside from the heroes’ skills and abilities, you can further enhance a hero’s potential through Promotion. In our Hero Promotion Guide, we will discuss the game’s Promotion feature.

Promotion Basics

You can access the Promotion screen by going to the Hero menu, selecting the hero, then tapping the Promote icon at the bottom.

Promotion permanently increases the hero’s grade/rank and will provide the unit significant and permanent stat boosts. Not only that, once the unit reaches rank SS onwards, they’ll be able to unlock their 3rd and 4th skills. SS Rank Heroes will also gain access to the Skill Up feature and unlock their Unique Ability. Skill up will enable you to level up your heroes’ skills, improving their potency and enhancing/adding new effects.

Promoting a unit requires Soul Essences, Soul Stones, or a combination of both. For example to promote a Rank A or Rank B hero, you’ll need a specified number of two types of Soul Essences. For Rank S or above heroes, you’ll need Soul Essences and their own Soul Stones. This means that you’ll need copies of the same hero to promote them past Rank S.

Immortal units are the most challenging to promote. On top of their Soul Stones (which are already incredibly hard to get because of their rarity), you also need a large number of all other essences. This high maintenance ceiling is understandable, considering how broken immortal units are.

Where to Get Soul Stones

Soul stones are automatically obtained when summoning copies of heroes you already own. You also check out Market > Soul Stone shop. Here, you can exchange 20 Soul Essences to get 5 Soul Stones. The featured character soul stones are random and will be refreshed daily as part of the game’s scheduled daily reset. You can only purchase Soul Stones twice per day using this shop. The limitation is refreshed daily as well.

Where to Get Soul Essences

You can extract Soul Stones to Soul Essences in a 1:1 ratio. You can also convert one essence into another but in a 2:1 ratio. This feature is very useful especially when trying to get more Immortal essences since the ratio stays the same. Additionally, you can directly purchase Essence packages using real money or using in-game currency from the Market. As much as possible, convert the soul stones of the characters that you won’t be using. By default, you can convert the soul stones of rank A heroes or below.
