Several games with party systems involving several characters or parties have some sort of rock-paper-scissors system which allows one entity to have a combat advantage over another through class, weapon type, faction, and elements to name a few. The Eminence in Shadow RPG has a similar but somehow simplified system integrated in its combat. In our Elemental Weaknesses Guide, we will briefly discuss how the game’s Elemental Weakness system works and how to take advantage of it in battle.

The Eminence in Shadow is the mobile game adaptation of a popular isekai light novel where players take the reins of Cid, a modern-day teenager who gets transported to a dark fantasy world after death. Players have to collect various iterations and rarities of the established heroines in the game to form their ideal combat parties and proceed through the story.

Each character in the game has an elemental color assigned to them. Since the game has a limited pool of characters, you may find identical-named characters with different elemental colors. (You can distinguish identical-looking, and same-named characters by their associated title and class) These elemental color assignments are permanently assigned to the character and can’t be removed/ changed.

The game’s elements are not the usual “fire, wind, water, earth” format; instead, they made it easier by associating the elements with color. There are five elemental colors in the game: red, green, yellow, blue, and white. The first four colors are part of a rock-paper-scissors system where one color is weak to the other. The fifth element (white) is an independent element and will not deal or receive bonus damage. Engaged characters of the same color will have the same effect as white-element characters; they won’t receive or deal bonus damage.

You can refer to the diagram below to see which color deals and receives bonus damage from another color, as directed by the arrows. For example, Red element characters will deal bonus damage to Green characters. On the other hand, Green characters will receive less damage from Yellow characters since the former is stronger than the latter. Knowing these will sometimes make or break the combat encounter, especially when trying to finish off an enemy with a special attack or surviving an opponent’s special attack. In such an event, changing the party’s composition based on elemental advantage might make the difference between victory and defeat.

Generally, you would like a team with different colors for normal quests. However, if you’re facing a boss or group of enemies that you can’t seem to beat, consider switching your party to an element that the boss or enemies are weak against. Before starting the battle, you’ll be able to see the elemental weakness of the enemies in the lower-left corner of the party selection/preparation screen.

For your convenience, make sure to use a different party slot (found on the top of the screen), use the Auto-Party function, then select the elemental color that matches the weaknesses of the enemies you’ll face in the next battle. The game will automatically select the best possible party members for this party. You don’t have to worry about the composition since the game will use the default but effective composition (1 tank, 1 healer, 3 attackers). Before starting the battle, don’t forget to select their equipment as well (if you have the feature unlocked already)

If ever the Auto-Party feature selected a low-level character, you can make some quick upgrades to that character by tapping and holding the character to open the “Character Details” screen. From there, tap the Character button again in the lower-left corner to return to the Character Enhancement screen where you can level her up, rank up, provide equipment, etc. To return to the party screen, just tap the back buttons in the top-left corner.

As long as your party has the elemental (color) advantage, they can deal higher damage while also receiving lesser damage in return. This can matter a lot since higher damage resistance wil give them high survivability against any enemy “nuke” attacks that deal massive damage in a single blow. Since there’s also a time limit per battle, being able to deal higher damage means that you’ll be able to defeat the enemies quicker, giving you access to better “Clear” rewards.
