Student Recruitment
More Blue Archive
Blue Archive is a military strategy RPG that takes place in the academy city of Kivotos where players take the role of an advisor to the Federal Investigation Club (Schale) and will be tasked in resolving a myriad of incidents that happen within the academy city. Students play a pivotal role in the game as they're your individual units with various roles, strengths, weaknesses, and of course, personality. In our Student Recruitment Guide, we will discuss how the game’s gacha system works and what you can do to increase the chances of getting your desired characters.
Blue Archive is a gacha game - meaning that the characters you’ll get will depend on your luck and how much resources you’re willing to spend. The drop rates are frustratingly low, so if you’re after a particular character that you like or if you want a top-tier character, your best chance to get them is by rerolling at the start of the game, before you even commit to binding your account and playing for real. You can follow our dedicated Reroll Guide to know how to complete the process and know which students to pick.
Students in the game come in 3 qualities/rarities: 1-star, 2-star, and 3-star. 1-star is common, 2-star is uncommon, and 3-star is (incredibly) rare. 3-star characters are relatively stronger than their lower-star counterparts but that doesn’t mean that they’re useless. Teams with 3-star characters will still require dependable low-star characters to support them.
Pyroxenes
These gems are valuable material used for recruitment. You can recruit 1 student for 120 pyroxene, and 1200 to recruit 10 at once. Since pyroxenes are premium items, you’ll only get a fixed amount of it from in-game methods like clearing missions, bonding with your students, or obtaining them as rewards from the developer. If you’re an F2P (free-to-play) player, saving these up and playing daily are the only methods available for saving up pyroxene. On the other hand, players with disposable income can just buy these pyroxenes outright from the in-game store.Drop Rate
First, let’s talk about the game’s drop rate. If you’ve played other gacha games before, then you’re quite familiar with drop rates and probability rates. You can check this out yourself by accessing the Recruitment button and tapping the “Rate Info” button in the lower-left corner. These rates are fixed and will only increase if a specific character is promoted to a limited-event banner. After the banner’s period is over, the featured character will return to its default rate.Banner Types
There are different types of banners: Pick-Up, Regular, and 3* Guaranteed. Pick-up and Regular banners will guarantee a 2-star or higher student for every 10 recruitments. If you already own the students you’ve recruited, you’ll receive their Eligma and Eleph instead.Pick-Up Recruitments
These are limited recruitment banners that will have an increased rate for the featured character. Take note that the students you’ll get are from the same pool of characters, with the main difference being that the featured character’s rate is boosted.
Furthermore, each recruitment you make will give you 1 Recruitment Point. Collect 200 recruitment points to finally select the featured character. This works like a “pity system”, which allows you to get the featured character after making too many pulls. (200 points/pulls is equal to 24000 Pyroxenes by the way). If you didn’t reach the 200 point requirement for a guaranteed featured character, all accumulated points will be converted into Keystone Pieces (low-tier crafting materials)
Regular Recruitments
This banner doesn’t have a featured/boosted character but will have a bit higher “normal” probability instead. Take note that the recruitment attempts in this banner will not earn any Recruitment Points so keep pulling on the Pick-Up banner if you have enough pyroxenes.
3-Star Guaranteed Recruitments
(Note: This banner is not available at the time of writing) You’ll need to purchase a corresponding Guaranteed 3-star ticket. While this ticket does ensure that you’ll get a 3-star student, you won’t get to choose which 3-star unit you’ll recruit. It will still be random from the pool of currently available 3-star students.
That’s about it; thanks for reading up to this point. Additionally, you can also check out our Tier List to know which characters are sought after. The tier list will get outdated if there are new characters introduced that will power-creep our existing roster as of this writing. However, in the end, your decision will still depend on your need or your preference. Remember, it’s your gameplay experience so if you want a specific character, roll for her without any regard of her tier list position.
