Best way to spend gold?

Regardless of level in the game, if you have extra gold to spare, it is always smart to prepare a few shields in your inventory. 3-day shields are worth 2500 gold, while 24-hour shields are 1000 gold each -- for the weekends that you might not be available to play to save you, soldiers, from being killed. Apart from that, you can also spend it on the instant wall-rebuild item which costs 500 Gold. Finally, you might need Gold to purchase advance teleport if you are actively participating in local or cross-server battles.
