Star Up Guide
Tales of Grimm Guide
Tales of Grimm is an idle RPG where you play as the Dreamer, and lead an army of creatures, heroes, and other entities as you help the natives of the fairy tale land of Oz. Leveling up a hero is one of the main ways of strengthening them. However, there’s a level cap that once reached, will prevent a hero from leveling up further. In our Star Up Guide, we will discuss how to bypass the level cap by using the Star Up mechanic of the game.
Increasing a hero’s star is required to break the level cap, allowing the hero to level up even further. To star up a hero, you have to use other heroes (that meet the requirements) as fodder. For example, to star up a 5-star hero, you’ll need four other 5-star heroes of the same element type. The consumed heroes will be permanently removed from your roster and all the boost materials used will be refunded. The talent skills of retired heroes are also “forgotten”, and all sigils and runes will be returned to the player.
You can access the Star Up screen by accessing the Magic Tower from the main menu and tapping the Star Up tab or selecting a hero from the Hero menu, then tapping the Star LV tab. You can also conveniently star up 4-star heroes to become viable 5-star fodder by tapping the Auto Star-Up button in the lower-right corner of the Star Up screen.
The star up requirement will change depending on the star level. Here are some examples.
Level cap | Requirements |
---|---|
100-145 | x1 copy of the same hero, x4 5* heroes of the same element |
145-165 | x4 5* heroes of the same element, 1000 Promotion Stones |
165 - 180 | x1 6* hero of the same element, x3 5* heroes of the same element, 2000 Promotion Stones |
LV180 - 205 | x1 copy of the same hero, x2 5* hero of the same element, x1 6* hero of the same element |
If you ever change your mind and would like to revert a 7*, 8*, or 9* hero, you can perform a Rollback to get back the boost materials used for upgrading them. Rolled back heroes will be reverted to 6*. Since you can’t roll back 6* heroes, you can further downgrade them by using the Rebirth function. Both Rollback and Rebirth are found in the Magic Tower, under the Rebirth tab.
As a general rule, always star up the heroes that you’ll be using often. Of course, if ever you want to use a new hero to your party and replace one of the heroes you’re using, at least you have these methods of retrieving the upgrade materials used on them.
