Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is an MMOPRG where players take control of a character they chose and explore the beautiful and vibrant world as imagined by Studio Ghibli and Level 5. Equipment maintenance is a staple for most RPG games. Players have to level up and upgrade their various weapons and gear to be able to tackle harder challenges and face deadlier foes. In our Equipment Polishing guide we will discuss the different options you can do to further improve your weapons and gear.

Equipment Polishing is the general process of improving your weapons, armor, and accessories. You can level up, upgrade, enhance, and awaken them using various consumables and materials. Performing these improvements will provide permanent stat bonuses and will contribute to your character’s total CP.

You can access the Polish window by tapping the main menu, tap Equipment, then Polish. You can also conveniently jump to the Polish window by tapping the item you want to improve from the inventory screen.

Level Up

You can use weapon varnishes and other weapons as level up materials to increase the level of a weapon or equipment. Using materials with the same element provides more EXP, and you can select multiple materials at the same time. Weapons, equipment, and accessories can be leveled up to a maximum of 30.

Upgrade

After reaching the level cap, you’ll need to Upgrade the item to increase its stars (gaining permanent stat improvements), and reset its level back to Lv1, which you can continue leveling up further. To upgrade an equipment, you’ll need the following materials: upgrade stones, territe, and gold. Upgrading will always have a 100% chance of success so there’s no danger of losing precious materials and gold. Upgraded items will require more EXP to level up so don’t be surprised if you need to use more varnishes and low-star fodder to level up the upgraded gear.

Equipment Polishing

I strongly recommend upgrading at least 3* equipment since they’re relatively reliable until you get better/ higher-ranked gear. Furthermore, you will most likely get more copies of 3-star gear, allowing you to awaken them quite easily. At the same time, don’t go overboard in upgrading 3-star gear since upgrade stones and territe are very valuable materials.

The stat difference between 3-star and 4-star gear are significant at their default levels but if you have a leveled, upgraded, enhanced, and awakened 3-star, better keep it a bit even if you have obtained a 4-star or above gear. Replace them only once you’re able to improve your 4-star.

Upgrading will only reset the level; equipment info like element, type, rarity, enhancement level, awaken level, and equipped gems are all retained.

Enhance

Enhancement further increases an equipment’s stats. Equipment will get a “+x” counter, indicating their enhancement level. Unlike upgrading, you can enhance an equipment regardless of level as long as you have the required number of enhancement stones of the same element and type. For example, to enhance a fire weapon, you’ll need a fire weapon enhancement stone.

Equipment Polishing

You can easily distinguish these enhancement stones with their color and the visible icons on the stones themselves. (sword - weapon, shield - armor, ring - accessories). There are also rainbow enhancement stones, which can act as substitutes for any element. However, their type will still be strictly enforced (rainbow weapon stones can only be used for enhancing weapons) Furthermore, you can use a combination of normal and rainbow enhancement stones to meet the required number of stones for the enhancement.

If your enhancement fails, you’ll receive a Four-Leaf Clover as a consolation item. This item can be used to level up your Higgledies, which will in turn, increase your stats and CP. For more information about the game’s enhancement process, please refer to our dedicated page for it.

Enhancement Transfer

This process allows you to transfer the enhancement level of a material equipment to a target equipment. The material equipment’s enhancement level must be higher than the target equipment where the enhancements will be transferred to. After transferring the enhancement level, the material equipment will be destroyed for good. Enhancement transfer has a 100% guaranteed chance of success so rest assured that your enhancements are properly secured.

Equipment Polishing

Awaken

This process not only increases the stats of an equipment, but also unlocking the gear’s latent potential. All gears have up to three unlockable Awakening effects. As the gear’s awakening rank/level increases, locked awakening effects are unlocked and its values leveled up. To view the item’s awakening effect skills, tap and hold its icon then under “Extra Awakening Effect”, tap the little magnifying glass.

You can awaken a gear up to 10 times. Awakening is a very expensive and time-consuming process. This is because you can only use the exact copy of the equipment. The number of copies needed to awaken also increases with the gear’s awakening rank. So for example, you only need to use one copy as fodder to reach Awakening 1. Next, you’ll need two copies to successfully reach Awakening 2, and so on.

Equipment Polishing

You can still push through an Awakening attempt with lesser materials but the success will still depend on the number of materials you’re willing to use. Like the enhancement attempts, unsuccessful awakening attempts will also produce Four-Leaf Clovers for leveling up your Higgledies.

Equipment Polishing

There are a lot of improvement options that you can apply to your gear so always regularly improve your gear to keep them updated and for your CP to increase steadily.
