Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is an MMOPRG where players take control of a character they chose and explore the beautiful and vibrant world as imagined by Studio Ghibli and Level 5. Enhancement is the process of permanently increasing an equipment’s stats (and your character’s CP) by using Enhancement Stones. In our Equipment Enhancement guide we will discuss this feature in detail and how you can take advantage of it.

Enhancement Overview

Enhancement further increases an equipment’s stats (and your character’s CP) Equipment will get a “+x” counter, indicating their enhancement level. Unlike upgrading, you can enhance an equipment regardless of level as long as you have the required number of enhancement stones of the same element and type. For example, to enhance a fire weapon, you’ll need a fire weapon enhancement stone.

Equipment Enhancement Guide

You can easily distinguish these enhancement stones with their color and the visible icons on the stones themselves. (sword - weapon, shield - armor, ring - accessories). There are also rainbow enhancement stones, which can act as substitutes for any element. However, their type will still be strictly enforced (rainbow weapon stones can only be used for enhancing weapons). Furthermore, you can use a combination of normal and rainbow enhancement stones to meet the required number of stones for the enhancement.

Enhancements can’t be rolled back so the only way to continue is to increase its level. Once an equipment reaches +20, you can further enhance it to make it even more powerful. However, the process is quite risky and there are significant penalties for failed attempts. (Please see our dedicated Dark Magic Equipment Enhancement page next).

Enhancement Process

The required number of enhancement stones needed increases as the enhancement level increases. Additionally, unlike Equipment Upgrade, there’s a chance for enhancement attempts to fail. The success rate of the enhancement will decline as your enhancement level increases. You’ll be able to see the current success rate of the enhancement attempt right above the Enhance button.

If your enhancement fails, you’ll receive Four-Leaf Clovers as consolation items. These items can be used to level up your Higgledies, which will in turn, increase your stats and CP. This is a very welcome feature since you’ll still get something nice even if you failed the expensive attempt to improve your gear for example.

Once the equipment’s enhancement level reaches +10, the equipment might become damaged. Damaged equipment can’t be enhanced until repaired. To repair equipment, you’ll need to use Anvils. The type of anvil that will be needed will depend on the enhancement level of the damaged gear. These consumables can be purchased from the in-game shop.

Enhancement Transfer

This process allows you to transfer the enhancement level of a material equipment to a target equipment. The material equipment’s enhancement level must be higher than the target equipment where the enhancements will be transferred to. You have to make sure that the material equipment is not currently equipped to anyone (including your other alternate characters) or you won’t be able to select it.

After transferring the enhancement level, the material equipment will be destroyed for good. Enhancement transfer has a 100% guaranteed chance of success so rest assured that your enhancements are properly secured.

Dark Magic Equipment Enhancement

This enhancement process is applicable to weapons, armor, and accessories with enhancement level +20. Successful dark magic enhancements will further significantly boost equipment and gem stats, and will add the “Cursed” label in the equipment’s name.

This feature becomes available after completing the Reputation Quest "Forbidden Techniques". The reputation quest becomes automatically available after successfully enhancing an equipment from +19 to +20. You’ll have to seek out the Javir Brothers in the Burning Desert to assist you with the process.

Equipment Enhancement Guide

You’ll need Territe, Elemental Enhancement Stones, Dark Magic Crystals, and Gold for the enhancement. A successful enhancement will increase the enhancement level by +1. However, a failed enhancement will decrease the enhancement level by -1 and any dark magic effect added will be removed. You can attempt to enhance the equipment again to gain back the level and the dark magic effects if you have the resources.
