Episode 3 Walkthrough

Episode 3 of An Elmwood Trail is now out and we are covering this new installment with a full walkthrough below. It is the longest episode of the game so far and gives us a lot of new content as well as more cut scenes and character interactions. The Episode 3 update gives us a some new features, such as subtitles.

As well as this exciting new episode of the game you can also play two more new Sidetrails. There are available to play if you have already completed the first three. These extra missions are separate stories with the same amount of fun and puzzle solving. Purchasing the extra content is a great way to support the developers and ensure we get more content for this great game so we definitely recommend it.

This walkthrough and related pages will help you get through the various puzzles and challenges in Episode 3. It is a summary of the main tasks and activities that you need to complete to work through the story. There are also links to hints and solutions for all of the diary pages and data recovery puzzles as well as the next Vault 8 challenge.

Note: There have been some minor bugs and issues noted in the game following the release of Episode 3. Techyonic have been correcting these bugs as quickly as possible and pushing out updates. If you notice any errors as you play through that is impacting the game we suggest checking for any recent updates for the game and installing these to correct them.

An Elmwood Trail - Episode 3 Waklthrough

Introduction - February 17th 2023

The Episode 3 chapter begins 56 days after the disappearance of Zoey Leonard. You receive a notification about a new file being recovered.

Switch to Zoey's Phone and check the Files app. This is a screen recording from Zoey's phone from Dec 23rd 2022, Tap and hold the fingerprint button top start.

After the Phone app is recovered use this and then call Lily. You will share your screen with her.

Listen though the conversation. Then you will be asked by Lily to delete the chat that you have with her.

Delete the Chat with Lily

By now the messages app should have been restored. Tap on it. Then on the Chat with Lily.

You can look at the chat messages. Then scroll to the top and you will see the option to 'Delete the Chat'.

There is a missed call from Betty.

Then you will receive an invite from Kevin to join a chat.

Tap the invite to open an app, this will show you an error. Follow Lily's instructions to get the Code on the screen, and make the change.

Continue through the conversation with Kevin and listen to the voice messages.

You will receive an email from Riverstone Car Wash with a phone number.

Go to the Phone App and call the number. 3459807

You will be told some co-ordinates.

1.1 North, 52.2 West

The caller is identified as Valeria Alvarez. You now exit the screen recording.

Task - Chat with Kevin's Dad

Go to Adam's Phone and open the Messages app. Then select the chat with Declan.

Follow the conversation to find out what has happened to Kevin. Tap the photo at the end and then you will get a flashback of moments from the game.

This completes the introduction.

Episode 3 - Threads of Chaos

This section starts with a timeline of events, this is useful if you played the previous episodes some time ago and will give you information for the next task.

Task - Message Unknown

Find the chat with Unknown in Adam's phone. Send messages about Kevin.

There is no response.

You now have three tasks to perform. Tap on the image of Kevin to start.

Select the Order of events

There are eight statements, you need to tap on them in the correct timeline order.

Check below if you need help.

Then tap on the next image, Valeria.

Connect the relevant clues together

As in previous episodes you now have six clues listed, these will contain pairs of related clues. Find the correct pairings.

Solution:

• Valeria asked Zoey to visit that location. Why?
• The night Zoey disappeared, she must have gone to the location Kevin went.

• The vault8 "games" are conducted by a host. Is the host same every time?
• Valeria was the host of the vault8 games played by Zoey.

Then finally the third image - Unknown.

Connect the relevant clues together

Three more pairs of clues to match.

Solution:

You will now see the map with locations drawn. Notice their order on the line.

Then tap on the map to start a puzzle

Map Puzzle

Tap each of the four images to change them.

Now that you have the locations, you will start a walk in the dark. You are using your phone to see and you have a flashlight that requires batteries. Over time the flashlight will dim and you will find it harder to see. If the flashlight dies you have to start again.

As you walk forward keep looking at the ground in front of you. You can tile your device to look up and down. As you move forward you will find batteries on the ground to pick up. You need these to keep the flashlight powered. When your flashlight runs low you can tap the arrows button to swap in the new batteries you collect.

We suggest you turn up the brightness on the device to help you see the batteries more clearly.

You will approach a gate. Then tap on the gate to start a lock pick puzzle.

Lockpick Puzzle

• Tap the lockpick to stop the first line as it moves up and down. If you time it correctly it will stop.
• The second line will start moving and you need to stop this one in the right place. If you get it wrong you start again.
• Finally the third line needs to be stopped in the correct place as well.

Hint: Watch the lines as they move up and down. at a certain point they will vibrate a little, this is the location that you need to try to stop them at.

You will need to complete 4 lock picks to reach the tree. And walk between each location finding batteries as you go to reach the Tree house.

The tree has 2 ropes hanging from it.

Ropes Puzzle

This is Lily's tree house that we heard about before in a previous episode. Zoey visited here and we used it as a clue to get a code. Fro this you may remember the sequence of rope pulls needed to release the ladder.

Solution:

A rope ladder will appear and you can enter the tree house.

You will see a Book shelf, you can use the arrows to look left and right. This is a puzzle

First look on the right side, there are four shelves win an item on each, at the bottom it has a cupboard with a padlock.

Tap the padlock to then enter a four digit code.

The other items on the shelf are clues to the numbers.

You can view a paper with symbols.

Then look at the books on the shelf to the far left. Each book has a symbol on it. These are parts of the symbols from the paper.

Tap on 10 books that have symbols that combine to make the ones on the paper.

Top shelf - Purple book, Green book.

Second shelf down - Red book, purple book, red book.

Third shelf down - Left and right ends: Green and Red.

Bottom shelf - The three middle books: purple, orange and green.

Select the box that you find and tap it to see some magazines. They are from Riverstone High.

A voice tells you to leave.

Follow the drive home. There will be some questions asked that you can answer or not.

Task - Talk to Lily

After the drive go to Adam's Phone and check the messages for the conversation with Lily.

Feb 18th 2023

Task Read Zoey's Diary note

Zoey's diary page 9 is now available to read. View the diary on Zoey's phone to find it. You will need to read the clue and work out the answer for Page 9.

Once unlocked you will read the page of Zoey's thoughts.

Task - Check the forensic reports on your desk (0/3)

Swipe over to Adam's desk and tap the blue folder on the desk at the bottom.

Tap through the flashing paragraphs on the report to find three new items of evidence.

Then tap on the flashing QR code to be directed to a website.

Task - Gather evidence from Riverstone Forensics.

Request the OTP. Enter it when the message arrives. 32781

You will note the DNA Profile 2X4L81

Task - Figure out a way to find a match for the DNA profile.

Go to the messages on Adam's Phone. Chat to Tim.

Tim gives you a the contact details for Elise Morel at ADA.

Task - Talk to Elise

Tap on the contact message for Elise. This will start the chat.

After the conversation Elise will allow you to access the database for 15 minutes.

Tsp on the link to be taken to the database, you will need to enter some details from the forensics report.

Connect the retrieved clues

As before you have 6 clues that you need to sort into 3 pairs.

Task - Ask Declan about Kevin's visitors in the hospital

Talk to Declan using the messages app on Adam's Phone.

You learn about Damon a former band mate of Kevin.

You receive a message from Brad. Go to the chat to talk to him.

You find out that Damon sang at the Halloween event 2022.

February 19th, 2023

The package from Brad arrives. Go to Adam's desk and tap on the box to look at the bracelet and photo.

Task - Use the riverstonehigh.edu website to find information on Damon.

Use the browser on Adam's phone and go to 'riverstonehigh.edu'. Use the search option on the page. Search for 'Halloween'

Tap on the poster of the band.

Rajan will contact you. Chat with him.

Task - Complete the data recovery process on Zoey's Phone.

You can now start another data recovery task on Zoey's phone. This will ask you to complete a puzzle and then unlock some new content for the investigation.

Once the puzzle is complete you will unlock 2 new emails and 2 photos. You can check these in the apps on Zoey's phone.

Find the Chat with Betty on Adam's Phone.

Follow the conversation, Betty will help to find out more about Damon.

February 20th, 2023

Task - Investigate the map with marked locations on the suspect board.

Go to Adam's Desk and tap the photo titled 'Marked Locations'.

Tap the two X locations and then 'Save the locations on the map'

Go to the Browser and select the option for the Riverstone map. There are two orange pins on the map. Select the one.

This will give you the Coordinates at the top and also a Postal Code.

Check the recovered emails on Zoey's phone. One of the recovered emails is for Fantasy Ball. View this and scroll down to find a new map website called geoscope.com

Go to the browser and visit this site. Here you can enter the coordinates and the postcode from the map.

This will give you details of the person that lives at that location. Benji.

Tap the number to start a chat with Benji.

After this conversation you can go back to the map to see marked location 2. Get the details and then enter them on geoscope.com as before.

You get the contact for Joseph.

Chat to him to find out he is Zoey's father.

You are contacted by Mario.

He will give you a participant code for vault8.

February 21st, 2023

Task - Visit Dr. Vernon for appointment

Tap the brain icon at the bottom to attend the appointment. Then knock on the door.

During the conversation you will get a flashback to 13 years ago.

You are working for ADA. You start by talking to Maxwell, your old colleague and then you will chat to Brian, a new member of the ADA team.

You then continue the conversation with Dr. Vernon

February 22nd, 2023

You have a new chat on Adam's phone with Betty and Kyle.

You get more information on Damon and another person called Yuki who might be able to help.

Task - Complete the data recovery process on Zoey's phone

You will get a notification about data recovery. Switch to Zoey's phone to start the process.

Check the walkthrough for Episode 3 data recovery for help with the puzzle.

Once this is done you will recover 1 email, 2 photos and a file.

Task - Find details about the campsite from recovered email and call the campsite.

View the mail on Zoey's phone and scroll down to find a new email from Riverstone Campsite. Get the phone number.

Use the phone app to call. 9012284

Adam's phone crashes, or is hacked. You are asked for the participant code.

Enter the code you got from Benji before.

This fails as it has been used before. The hack begins to wipe the data on Adam's phone.

To stop this you need to swipe over to Adam's Desk. The phone is on the desk, to to view it on the screen. You can see the buttons on the side.

Tap ans told the top power button and the bottom volumne down button. This will restart the phone.

You can then access it again.

Task - Figure out a way to continue the vault8 stage

Go to the chat and talk to Mario again. He will give you most of the phone number for the next stage. The last number is missing.

You can try the 10 possible digits at the end to find the correct number.

Once you get through you play a game guess the number. You have 7 chances.

• Enter a 2 digit number and the voice will tell you if the answer is higher or lower.
• If you do not get it correct in 7 tries the game will start again.
• Each time the game starts the number can be different.

This is the next part of the Vault8 challenges. Another text adventure where you need to work your way through a series of options to find your way to the end.

Once you complete this you can continue with the investigation.

Task - Resume investigation on the campsite

Use the phone app to call the campsite. 9012284

There are two options. Trying Option 1 will end the call. Try option 2 and you will be told that someone will contact you shortly.

You receive a notification from Kyle. Go to the Chat.

You find out about the portal at - rhstudentinfo.com. And Trey and Rajan may have access.

Task - Find someone with access to rhstudentinfo.com.

Chat to Rajan, unfortunately he cannot help.

Chat to Trey, scroll down to find his chat. He will give you an ID and PIN for the portal.

Go to the browser on Adam's Phone and access the portal at rhstudentinfo.com

Enter the log in details from Trey.

Search for 'Damon' - You will find a contact number for Damon Reeves.

Use the phone now to call the number - 5124253

You speak to Damon's father.

Task Read Zoey's Diary note

Zoey's diary page 10 is now available to read. View the diary on Zoey's phone to find it. You will need to read the clue and work out the answer for Page 10.

Task - Talk to Amanda

Find the chat in messages on Adam's Phone.

Task - Talk to Tim about Amanda

You will get details on Maggie Hopkins, Amanda's friend and a website to check.

Rustic Slice Challenge

Go to the browser and visit rusticslice.com.

There is a challenge to get 20% off and to chat with the chef. Tap to play this.

This is a mini game where you need to guide the pizza slice through the knives to reach the end.

You need to pass through enough knives to collect 5 toppings.

If you find it tough though there is a skip option that will complete it for you immediately.

After you complete the challenge you receive a notification from Ray at the campsite. View this chat.

Continue the conversation to ask about Damon.

Task - Complete the data recovery process on Zoey's Phone.

You can now start another data recovery task on Zoey's phone. This will ask you to complete a puzzle and then unlock some new content for the investigation.

Task - Answer Maggie's Call

Accept the call when it rings. You talk to Maggie about Amanda.

Task - Talk to Amanda

As you continue through the conversation there will be another flashback - 11 Years ago.

First you have another conversation with Amanda. Then you will chat to Brian. He tells you about a case, the Paddington Posters.

Paddington Posters - Bomb Puzzle

You now need to work through a series of clues and puzzles to help Brian locate a suspected bomb and then defuse it.

Once this is complete you return to the present and your chat, Amanda has gone.

Task - Read Zoey's diary note

You can now access another page of Zoey's diary for more information. Go to Zoey's phone diary app and solve the riddle.

Task - Ask Betty and Kyle about Shane

Find the group chat with Betty and Kyle and talk to them there.

Task - Check the newspaper on your desk.

Go to the Desk view and look at the newspaper.

Then talk to Maxwell in the chat

You receive a notification from the group chat, go back to talk to Betty and Kyle.

Task - Find a way to contact Shane

Shane follows Betty on Pixabowl. Go to Pixabowl on Zoey's phone to find the posts by Betty.

Then scroll down to find one by its.shane.

Notice the last comment from Mikeyyy - There is a number within the comment.

Use the Phone app on Adam's phone to call - 1093315

You will get a message.

Task - Read Zoey's diary note..

You can now access another page of Zoey's diary for more information. Go to Zoey's phone diary app and solve the riddle.

February 25th, 2023

Task - Chat with Jim

Chat with Jim and he will ask for help with a science project.

He sends list of items that you need and asks you to go to a website.

Use the browser to visit yeahscience.com

Now you need to search for the items from the list. You can find the list at the bottom of the screen to check it.

Then go to the Basket and choose Place Order.

Task - Complete the data recovery process on Zoey's Phone.

You can now start another data recovery task on Zoey's phone. This will ask you to complete a puzzle and then unlock some new content for the investigation.

Task - Finish Jim's school project

Check Adam's desk, you will have a delivery. Open the box.

Science Project Build

You now have a breadboard and the requested components shown at the top.

Tap the top left to see an image of the required circuit.

Select each component and place it into the positions show in the image.

Then tap the button to 'Connect the wires'.

Now you need to tap the button to 'Test the project', The LED should turn on in the dark.

Task - Chat with Jim

Talk to Jim about the project.

Task - Chat to Shane

You now have a message from Shane. Go to the Chat.

After you finish you can then tap on the contact for Damon to start a chat with him.

Task - Complete the data recovery process on Zoey's Phone.

You can now start another data recovery task on Zoey's phone. This will ask you to complete a puzzle and then unlock some new content for the investigation.

Task - Find some information from the recently recovered data.

View the latest file to be recovered, this is a video with fours sticky notes and four dates.

You do not watch the video. just tap it to record the information.

You now repeat the walk in the dark to the tree house. You have the same flashlight that requires you to pick up batteries from the ground along the way.

You will also need to compete the lock pick tasks at the 4 locked gates. This time there is a Skip option which you can use to move past each part of the journey.

When you reach the tree house repeat the same sequence with the ropes to release the ladder.

When you enter the tree house, view and then take the magazines.

Task - Examine the magazines on your desk..

First - match the magazines to the dates on the notes.

Next - What's the order of these events?

Then complete the rest of the questions.

At this point the power goes out. You need to restore it.

Restore the Power to the Office

Look around to find the door to Tim's office. Open and go in, then collect a flashlight from the desk.

You can now see. Look around find the store room,

Open the door collect the screwdriver.

Back up and look around to find the electrical box.

Tap the three screws to use the screwdriver to remove them, then open it.

There are 6 switches that you can turn on or off.

On the bottom right is a master switch to turn the power on.

When you turn it on it will check the power for the switches you have turned on, this needs to equal the 17 A shown.

Find the correct combination of switches to turn on to match this.

You hear a sound, when you investigate you see a crutch by the door.

Your desk and photo wall is now a mess.

Tap the photos on the desk to place them back on the wall. You then need to examine what has changed. Tsp the highlighted points to find items that are missing.

You receive a phone call from a new number. You speak to the person who broke into your office.

He calls himself Max.

Next you receive a message from Little Hamsters. Go to liitlehamsters.com in the browser on Adam's phone. You will chat with crossbar_36

Task - Check the last person Zoey talked to before calling Zac the night she disappeared.

Go to Zoey's phone and use the Phone app. Scroll down to the last received calls to find who she spoke to before Zac.

Task - Interrogate Rajan

Message Rajan from Adam's Phone.

Task - Head to littlehamsters.com and talk to crossbar

Return to the littlehamsters.com site to continue the conversation.

Task - Find Rajan's email address

Check the mail on Zoey's phone and look for one related to the Quizteam.

Then return to the littlehamsters chat and tell crossbar.

Amanda calls you, answer the call. After that call you receive a message from Mr. Davis

This is followed by a call, is is Crossbar_36 They have hacked into Rajan's phone.

Find the call recording on Rajan's Phone

Using the interface, search through the file structure to the phone to locate call recordings. You need to use the arrows and the circle to highlight and select options.

Navigate to Internal/Apps - you need to find the passcode.

The hint asks for WiFi Pin + Phone Model

You can find these through looking at the files on the phone.

Hints:

Now you can go to: /Internal/Apps/Phone/History/

Then go to the Recordings folder to see a list.

Find the recording from 2022 12 23 and select to Extract it. .

During the timer Rajan will be returning to the phone, you need to hide the extraction process.

Back up through the folders to the start and then choose the 'External' folder.

Select the updating.png file and then select 'Display'.

For the next task you need to find a three digit code. This is to override the shutdown.

You will then be able to listen to the call.

Task - Pick up Max's call.

Max tells you to drive and he will guide you to the bracelet signal.

Driving Puzzles

Tap and hold the key to start and then follow the directions.

When Max tells you to turn you will need to turn the steering wheel to move the indicator to the arrow.

Re establish communication

At some point you will loose communication with Max. You need to fix this by setting the correct waveform shape.

Tap the top button to select the correct pattern and the arrows to change the size until it matches.

Re calibrate the Frequency

Tap the arrow buttons to move the white dot to the center circle.

You will need to do this twice while also looking out for turns.

After the crash and some more turns you arrive at the required location.

That completes Episode 3. Another exciting cliff hanger for the game and plenty of options for the next episode. It is suggested that Episode 4 will be the final one of the game. Hopefully it will answer all of the questions.
