How to Play Sky?

If you are not familiar with any of the developer’s games preceding Sky, things can easily confuse you with this game especially if you’ll compare it to a typical game. If you are familiar with the typical arrangement of MMO games out there, you might be wondering if you could ask some other players within the games for any tips or hints -- only to find out that you can’t. At least not yet when you just got started at the game.

Nonetheless, we highly suggest that you simply try to enjoy a slow pace of learning how to play it. Try to enjoy the simple controls, the music, and just about anything there is in the game really. If you get lost and try to figure out what you are supposed to do next, simply tap on your character and it will show you the direction where you are supposed to go. And while trying to get to the direction where it leads you, why not try to check things that come in your way and try to interact and fiddle around with points of interest. That simply is the best way to experience the game. And for the other parts that may still confuse you, we got you covered in this guide!

Controls

Though the game had a pretty decent set of controls in game consoles, it was quite different when it got ported to the mobile platform. For inexperienced players of the game, it may seem to be quite decent at first, but will progressively become a pain to deal with as you try to maneuver your way towards tricky areas in the game. It is not bad as getting sticky on the controls, but playing it with touch screen controls just doesn't feel right and is a pain to deal with (especially when navigating when there is rain, or landing on a small platform).

For those interested to tweak the controls of the game, it does offer adjustments at the settings -- found by tapping at the upper right corner of the screen and picking the “settings” button. When you get there, check the “Controls” section and fiddle around with the given options. There are several adjustments to pick like choosing between one-handed or two-handed playing, Invert the controls when flying, or even the controls when changing your camera perspective.

As for the default settings they are listed below:

Directional Sliding of Finger (continuously touching the screen) - walk/run direction

Directional Flick - character jump (from ledges)

Second Finger Directional Sliding - adjusts camera direction / point of view

Double tapping of your avatar - shows your current mission/quest’s point of direction

Action Buttons / Points of interest - click on buttons or points of interest to activate them.

How to fly in Sky?

While on the ground, pressing + holding (tap) the screen will engage your cape and grant you a boosted lift / jump which will enable you to hover around mid-air. When you start the game, this lift is very limited and quickly loses its power -- which is why one main goal you need to do while playing is to find winged light (children of the light) to improve your cape and get you better use of flight while exploring. Better flight means you get to higher places, where you’d typically not be able to reach when you just started the game.

When you jump from a ledge (or typically a higher place) the default settings in the game is to be in close wing mode -- which will typically enable you to glide towards your choice of direction. Sliding your finger (continuously touching the screen) will let you navigate towards the glide direction. Sliding upwards will gain you a bit of lift, and sliding downwards will let you descend. When you are hovering within a platform, a land button will appear on your screen and tapping on it will disengage your wing/cape and gradually let you land to a surface.

However, when you are flying over clouds (or some other special areas in the game), you’ll automatically be engaged in open wing mode -- which will grant you stable flight in most cases, and enable you to cover long distances flying. Take the time to familiarize yourself with how to fly around especially in open wing mode -- as there are several missions in the game where you’ll have to maneuver your way to difficult places to earn winged light or even meet some ancestors.

Improve your Cape!

As we’ve mentioned, better flight in the game will give you access to places where you’d typically not be able to reach when you’ve just started playing the game. To improve your wing/cape power, you typically need to level it up. And to do that in the game, you’ll have to find the children of the light, or simply, the winged lights. Each winged light is like a set amount of experience points for your cape. Upon filling up the gauge of your cape (from collecting winged lights), it will level up.

There are a total of 76 winged lights to be found in the game (scattered across the different kingdoms in the game). Be sure to take your time exploring the different kingdoms and try to remember all the plausible areas that you can check later on when you get to improve your cape and have more flight power. These higher areas tend to contain even more of the winged lights while some areas offer progress in the game’s overall plot.
