Other players in the game are the grayed out avatars that you see roaming the world. Initially, you'll see them all having the similar sprite, and when you see them interact with each other, you'll see something like [......]. If you've grown familiar with spirits in the game and how you purchase stuff from it using candles, it is pretty much the same when it comes to making friends in the game -- which will later on enable you to chat with someone.

How Can I Chat with Other Players in Sky: Children of the Light?

When it is your first time to meet someone in the game, you have the option to give them a candle (simply by going close to their avatar until the option will pop up). If the other player is interested in communicating with you, he/she will accept the candle and will then enable you to actually see what he/she actually looks like (with all their cosmetic items). From there, when accessing their friend option (like lighting their candles for the first time), you'll see some sort of skill tree, similar to that of a spirit ancestor. You will have to purchase upgrades to that particular player's "Friendship" tree in order to actually make them your "Friend" and have them listed in your Friends List.

However, if what you are after is a simple chat with a random stranger, you can simple light a candle on chat benches scattered on the different kingdoms -- where typically a lot of other players populate them just to socialize with other players. Gathering friends is an integral part of the game -- which even demands players to play co-op with up to 8 players in order to access some areas in the game. Additionally, trying to finish the last chapter of the game (The Eye of Eden) highly requires a group of people taking it together, for a higher chance of success.

Lastly, you should also know that friends can send each other "Hearts" daily, without any cost to each individual players. Hearts are the social currency in this game -- which are also a bit more valuable than candles (each heart can be purchased for 3 candles from ancestor spirits), and are used to purchase cosmetic items in the game like hair styles, masks, cape, and even accessories. So gather as many friends as you can, and send them hearts everyday, in order to collect just as much from them!
