Punishing Gray Raven is a visually-stunning, action-packed ARPG set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by the Corrupted. Since combat is the core mechanic of the game, improving your weapons is also essential in ensuring that you’ll get the best possible boost to your construct’s damage output and improving their BP. In our Weapon Improvement Guide, we will discuss the various methods of improving your weapons.

Combat is the very essence of the game. The stronger your characters, the easier time you’ll have in clearing more content of the game. This combat prowess is measured in BP or Battle Power. The weapons equipped to your characters are also a great factor that directly affects BP and improving them will help you in clearing more difficult challenges (with better rewards). Thankfully, weapon improvements in the game are quite straightforward.

How to get Better Weapons

The top-tier weapons in the game are locked behind the game’s gacha mechanic (Weapon Research) and getting a much-coveted 6-star weapon will depend entirely on your luck and how many tickets you can burn through to build your Pity rate. You should at least use a 4-star weapon as a placeholder, until you’re able to get 5-star or 6-star weapons. Thankfully, 4-star weapons are very accessible. You can get 4-star weapons from completing missions.

Early in the game, if you’re still struggling to get decent weapons for your characters, you can consider buying the decent 4* weapons in the Shop > Recycle Shop. Each weapon will require 450 4-star weapon shards. These shards can be obtained by recycling 4-star weapons. Thankfully, the 4* Weapon Enhancers are also considered weapons so recycling them will yield 150 shards each. While these are unarguably valuable, you can afford recycling a few of them early on since they can be farmed or obtained by relatively easy methods. This is acceptable early on especially if that means you’ll get a decent and useful 4-star weapon for your favorite character as placeholder.

Weapon Enhancing

Weapons can be leveled up by “feeding” them other weapons and/or weapon enhancers to increase their stats. You can farm weapon enhancers by clearing the Resource Mission - Logistics Maintenance stage. Additionally, you can also Recycle old upgraded weapons to get 70% of the upgrade materials used on them.

After reaching a weapon’s max level, you have to Overclock them using the required overclock materials. A weapon’s final max level will be determined by its grade. 4-star weapons can be leveled up to LV35 (post-overclock), 5-star weapons up to LV40, and so on.

Weapon Overclock

Overclocking increases the level and stat cap of the weapon and resets its level back to 1. Even after the level resets, the weapon’s stats will be retained. You can repeat the process until the weapon is fully overlocked. Weapons with different ranks will have different conditions and resource requirements for overlocking. Overlock materials are mainly harvested from Resource Mission - Military Hardware.

Weapon Resonance

Only 5-star and 6-star weapons have Resonance Skill slots. The main difference is that Resonance Skills of 5-star weapons can be used on any character. However, resonance skills of 6-star weapons will be bound to character. The skill will only come into effect if the weapon is equipped by the character it was bound to. Resonance skills already assigned to the weapon’s resonance slots can still be overwritten by a new resonance skill.

To activate resonance skills, you’ll need to either “feed” the weapon with any unequipped weapon of the same slot. You can also use common resonance materials as substitutes. As you can see, this process is really not practical for most players due to the rarity of 5-star and 6-star weapons. However, 5-star and 6-star weapons are still amazing on their own, even without resonance skills. Consider resonance as a way of squeezing out more potential out of the weapon.
