Punishing Gray Raven is a visually-stunning, action-packed ARPG set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by the Corrupted. The game has a variety of different characters, each with their own set of skills, abilities, attack styles and more. To improve a construct’s combat capability, you can level it up, enhance its skills, promote it, and more. Evolution is one such process that will allow you to further improve your constructs’ stats and Battle Power, ultimately even their class (rarity). In our Punishing Gray Raven Evolution guide, we will cover the basics of this feature and how to use them to your advantage.

Characters in the game have different classes or rarities. While all characters are viable as combatants and can help you clear the game’s contents if you strengthen them, higher class characters will almost always outperform the lower-class ones. Thankfully, if your favorite character doesn’t start as a high-class unit, the game offers a method of unlocking their potential even further and allow them to go toe-to-toe against high-class units. That’s where Evolution comes in.

Evolution allows your construct to increase their tier by one level. For example, Class B can be evolved to Class A, Class S to SS, and so on. Using this feature, all constructs can reach the highest grade (SSS+). This is another process that you should always do because of the immense permanent stat boosts your construct will get from evolving.

How to Evolve Characters

Each character has 10 chip terminals that will provide stat boosts when activated. You have to activate all chip terminals to fully evolve a character to the next upper class. To activate a chip terminal, you have to use the construct’s Inver-Shards as material. After activating all 10 terminals, pay the necessary amount of cogs to complete the evolution to the next class.

To evolve to the following class, you’ll need to repeat the process of activating all 10 terminals once again. The amount of shards required will increase as you move up the class levels. For example, to evolve an A-class construct to S-rank, you’ll need to collect a total of 20 shards, to evolve an S-class construct to SS, you’ll need around 30 shards, and to evolve at SS construct to SSS requires 90 shards.

How to Evolve Characters

Some shards can be bought from the shop daily at limited amounts but the majority of shards you’ll get will come from getting duplicate copies of the construct you already own by pulling them via Research or exchanging the Phantom Pain Scar currency in the Phantom Pain Cage (Phantom Shop).

How to Evolve Characters

The construct’s base rarity (class) will affect how many Inver-Shards you’ll get if you get a duplicate so even if you get a duplicate of an SS-class construct who started as a B-class, the construct’s default class (B) will determine the amount of shards you’ll get:

* B-Class = 6 shards

* A-Class = 18 shards

* S-Class = 30 shards
