Aside from a character’s level, their equipment also plays a great role in determining their combat power. Of course, not all equipment pieces are created equal; factors such as rarity, level, and ascension levels will directly affect how they’ll contribute to a character’s overall combat strength. In our Normal Gear Guide, we will discuss how to properly manage your equipment to increase your individual characters’ combat power.

One Punch Man - The Strongest is the mobile game adaptation of the popular shonen manga and anime series that centers around the titular One Punch Man. Players can’t play as Saitama himself but they’ll be able to recruit various heroes, villains, and more to form a powerful team they can use to clear the various game content.

Each character has two types of equipment: Exclusive Gear and (Normal) Gear. However, in this page, we will just discuss the Normal Gear first. We have a dedicated page for Exclusive Gear so please check that out as well.

Each character can equip four different gear items divided into Top, Legwear, Footwear, and Accessory categories. Each gear has a main stat and a secondary stat. Main stats are fixed while the secondary stat will be randomized when you get an equipment piece. There’s also a chance for an extra stat to be added as you enhance the gear further. The gear’s stats significantly vary per rarity.

Upgrading

You can further increase a gear’s stats by Enhancing them. To enhance an item, you’ll need coins and Gear EXP Cards. These can be collected from clearing Conqueror’s Challenge attempts, as well as dismantling old equipment. As the enhancement level increases, so does the amount of EXP cards and coins needed. You can also enhance in batches of 5 levels to make it more convenient. The upgrade cost seems to depend on the rarity of the gear you’re upgrading as well so expect Orange gears to get extremely expensive as its level goes up.

Normal Gear Guide

As much as possible, try not to spend resources in leveling up Normal (gray) and Green gear. Spend a bit of resources on Blue/Blue+ but do spend a bit of resources on Purple and Purple+. Orange gears are the highest rarity in the game so don’t hesitate spending resources on leveling them up.

Dismantling and Reverting

If you tap the Dismantle button, you’ll have the option to destroy your excess, non-enhanced gears to convert them to EXP Cards and Gear Vouchers. You can use the latter as alternative currency to buy new gears from the Gear Store (see below). You can also use the Quick Select option to (multiple) select equipment by bulk through the specified rarity, main stat, and secondary stat. This is a great way to quickly sort through your excess gear.

Normal Gear Guide

On the other hand, Revert allows you to dismantle gears that have been enhanced. This process requires the use of gems so try not to do this option too much. That’s why it’s important not to waste resources on temporary or placeholder gears in the first place. Reverting only returns a portion of the EXP cards and coins; there’s an option to retrieve 100% of the enhancement materials but that will cost more qems.

Gear Store

You can find the Gear Store from the Mall > Gear Section option in the upper-right corner of the main screen. Here you can use the Gear Vouchers from reverting unused equipment as well as gems. Be careful when selecting gear from the shop since those that cost gems are mixed in with the same group. You can refresh the displayed items for free up to four times a day though the inventory will automatically refresh as well as part of the game’s scheduled reset.

Ascension

This process greatly increases the equipment’s secondary stats by adding stars on it. This can only be done using Star Ascension Cards, which are already rare on their own. You can get these cards from the Gear Materials gacha. Since Star Ascension Cards are very rare, consider only ascending Orange gear since they’re going to be permanently part of your inventory anyway.

Normal gears can also belong to a Set. Equipping all four pieces from the same set will activate the Set Buff. Here are the current sets available in the game:
