Releasing Familiars

Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is an MMOPRG where players take control of a character they chose and explore the beautiful and vibrant world as imagined by Studio Ghibli and Level 5. Familiars are an integral part of your adventure, providing buffs to your character, and aiding you in battle. It will come to a point that you’ll have an excess amount of familiars that you have to get rid of. In our Releasing Familiars guide we will discuss how releasing familiars work.

Familiar Release

Releasing familiars is a good way to free up your familiar inventory slots and receive useful familiar hatching materials, jellies, and other items. Releasing high-grade familiars will yield more material items, as well as familiars with various enhancement and awakening levels. As a reminder, releasing a familiar is a permanent process so be very careful on what you select and confirm!

To access the Release Familiar window, tap the menu in the top-right corner of the screen, select Familiar from the list of icons to the left, then tap Release. Then, select the familiar you want to release. Higher grade familiars like the one shown below will have a lot of guaranteed items that will be awarded to you upon release. However, since 4* familiars are hard to come by, you’ll likely release lower-grade ones, which we will briefly discuss below.

A low-grade familiar with enhancements like the one shown below will also have guaranteed drops, including jellies (even if you haven’t used jellies on them). Additionally, there are also Chance Rewards. These are bonus rewards that you’ll get on top of the basic rewards. These chance reward items have individual rates (like you have a 10% chance to get another jelly or 40% chance to get a Sand of Time). If your inventory is full, the rewards will be sent to your mailbox instead. You can release up to 200 familiars at a time.

Beans

Another option you can find in the Familiar Release window is the (Sell) Beans option. If you remember, Beans are dedicated fodders that can be used to level up familiars. In this window, you’ll be able to sell them but I don’t really recommend doing that since gold can be earned in a lot of other ways and each 3* beans are only worth 600 gold anyway so they’re better off being used for their intended purpose anyway.
