I made the poisoned pond, but when I drag a villager to gather from it, he/she didn't get poisoned...

I made the poisoned pond, but when I drag a villager to gather from it, he/she didn't get poisoned. I wanted to train my healer.. What did I do wrong?

You have to use a child to collect poison

I have used children to collect poison and only 1 got poisoned so far. The snakes are ineffective
