Children or adults can catch them. They are they little yellow things floating through the air. Just put them down in front of one and it will carry it to the crafting shack.

Children won't pick up butterflies. At least mine don't. Unless this person is talking about the fireflies... cuz those can be caught and taken to crafting hut. I have tried many times to get child to grab butterflies flying around and absolutely nothing happens.

Butterflies are made in the craft hut.

Green Butterfly (24 Hours):
Mixed Herb and Worm

Orange Butterfly (24 Hours):
Orange and Worm

Blue Butterfly (24 Hours):
Blueberry and Worm

Red Butterfly (24 Hours):
Strawberry and Worm

It pollinates by itself after you've made enough progress. I think the more cracks you explore the sooner it shows up
