Are there multiplayer aspects in the game?

On the lower left side of your main menu, you'll see an icon with 2 people there. This will bring you to the friends menu of the game. If you've connected the game to Facebook, you should be able to see if you have friends who have played the game as well.
By default, you will have Ernie as your friend. If you click on a friend's icon, you can then visit their town and see how it looks like. Once you have a friend added, you can help each other with fulfilling goods.
When fulfilling goods, you can click "Ask for Help" in order to let friends know that you need certain items. They can load your train faster if you'll work together.
Once you reach level 19, you'll be able to unlock the Co-Op feature. This location lets you exchange goods with other people so you can get the items that you need faster.
