Soldiers (Hero Units)
OTTTD Guide
Heroes are the special units you control in the battlefield. They are integral to your overall strategy because of their weapons and abilities. You can have up to three heroes deployed in the field at a time. Their specialties, along with their unlocked abilities can allow them to work together and become more efficient in the battlefield. They are deployed at the start of the battle. You can move them wherever you like and they can heal any tower nearby.
Soldiers are not invulnerable units. They do take damage and can be killed. Once killed, they’re out from the entire battle. Death is not permanent since you can revive them. For the first few deaths, you can revive them immediately for free. For succeeding deaths, you’ll have to wait for a timer countdown to finish before you can revive them or spend a gem.
Soldiers have Passive and Active abilities. Passive abilities remain in effect all the time, as long as you have purchased it while Active abilities must be triggered manually. Active abilities have a cooldown so use them only as you need them. The skill point requirements for these skills stay the same as you level them up. Some high-tiered abilities however, costs more skill points to begin with. You can only equip two active abilities at a time so choose the ones you’ll need the most in a particular mission. The variety of skills per hero gives the game more depth as it gives you the freedom to modify their loadout depending on the strategy you have in mind. Some abilities can also be used to support other heroes. For example, the Recon’s Mark ability can allow the Rocketeer to fire his rocket and hit the marked target anywhere in the map.
There are seven hero units in the game, each with their own specializations and skills. For the complete list of their abilities, please refer to the Skills page.
Support unit who can instantly repair towers remotely and boosts their attacks. He can also deploy shields to protect allied towers and heroes.
Offensive hero that can deal AoE (area-of-effect) damage to enemies and slow them down. Also serves as the game’s tank. Can also learn to heal allies.
A marksman that can mark enemies which enables the allied Rocketeer or rocket tower/ needler to hit the marked targets with rockets. Has long range, thanks to his equipped sniper rifle. Can also use cloak to avoid detection from enemies. He also has the ability to deploy a cloaking field to the benefit his other allies.
Uses Jetpack to fly anywhere in the map and rockets to pulverize enemies. Can fire homing rockets that deal heavy splash damage to air or ground targets. Can deal additional damage to airborne targets by learning the necessary passive skill. One of the best defenders in the game since he has passive skills that allows him to target enemies attacking his allies or the HQ anywhere in the map.
Can lay down different types of landmines and deal heavy damage by backstabbing enemies. His AoE can stop enemies on their tracks, allowing allied soldiers and towers to deal damage while they’re vulnerable. He’s using a pistol so his range is quite limited. [br /]
Launches several bombs to the air and showers down explosive death below. Has medium range and rather bulky like the Assault unit. Has a very high damage output, especially when equipped with more powerful weapons. Because of his weapon's arching fire and slow attack rate, he won't be an effective defender up close but can be a very effective medium range damager.
Support unit that can clone himself, transform himself to a powerful unit temporarily and use various support abilities. The clone can’t be controlled and it seems that enemies don’t pay attention to it either. Uses the same weapon type as the saboteur, which makes his range very limited.
