What is the best way to safely collect resources?

What is the best way to safely collect resources? I ask for safely because I am fairly low level and every time I leave my nest to go gather resources I get attacked by people that are 30+ levels above my current rank and they injure all of my ants which then in turn cost me more in resources than what I have to spend.

If your not in a clan, then I would suggest relocating, if you are then you should activate a shield to safely gather resources. If you still keep getting targeted then I would suggest to move to a newer state to have a similar level to everyone else.
