Looking at my snail stats under Dark cavern, select snail trial, stats.... I see that my melee, ranged..

Looking at my snail stats under Dark cavern, select snail trial, stats.... I see that my melee, ranged and haste DEF stats are at 0 but I cannot see anywhere to upgrade this in either military or civil tabs for snail. Its not in marks of honor and there is no apparent glory level for snail either. I am totally at a loss, please help so I can beat floor guard 59! Thanks

There is no defence upgrade for the individual ant types with the snail. Only army def. Its a oversight / lazy development from the developers.
